Claoxylon has many uses in various sectors. As foods, Claoxylon leaves are edible. Martin and Ruberte (1979) noted that C. longifolium, C. oleraceum, and C. polot were edible. Claoxylon longifolium Miq. (Sundanese: ki lehat, Java: ketupuk, kuyam) is a shrub found in the western part of the Malay Archipelago, which its young stems can be burn as side dishes, steamed of Claoxylon leaves have a good taste (Haskarl 1845). Young shoots of C. longifolium can be eaten raw and can be used as vegetables, known as ‘pucuk salak’ in Malaysia (Ardiani 2012; Anuar 2013) and ‘Merutis’ in Sumbawa (Rahayu and Rustiami 2017). ‘Sepan’ young shoots of C. praetermissum in the Guhung village, Central Kalimantan were planted in the yard of the Dayak community to be served. ‘Sitampu’ (C. indicum) is widely planted in Malay because the leaves can be used to make vegetables (Heyne 1927), this information is confirmed by the same species of ‘Sitopu’ mention for Mandailing Natal people in South Tapanuli.
Claoxylon indicum in the mountains of West Sumatra was used for feed fish in ponds (Heyne 1927). Both C. indicum and C. longifolium were used to feed Sumatran Elephants in Aceh (Zahrah 2016). Claoxylon kirkii leaves can be cooked as vegetables, ripe fruit is eaten raw and used as animal feed (Quatrochii 2012).
The inner bark and leaves can be used in the health sector as a respiratory illness medicine. Sitampu (C. indicum) was used as a laxative by Malays (Heyne 1927). Traditionally in sub-ethnic Batak Simalungun, it was used for supranatural disease: alogo-alogo (malnutirition), and traditional concoction: Tinuktuk tawar (‘mashed concoction’ to maintain stamina (Silalahi et al. 2014, Silalahi et al. 2019). Ethnopharmaceutical studies in Mauritius indicated that Claoxylon is used to cure respiratory diseases. Leaves of C. glandulosum Boivin ex Baill. indicated to cure sinusitis (Suroowan and Mahmoodally 2015). Raw leaves or the fallen leaves of C. kirkii mixed with milk was eaten to expel tapeworms, treat epilepsy, and stomatch pain (Quatrochii 2012). Claoxylon is also effective in regulating blood sugar levels (Bachok et al. 2014). ‘Sepang’ (Claoxylon indicum) is also used for treating diabetes (Abdullah et al. 2012), eye pain medication, cough medicine (Bharati et al. 2015), anti-arthritis (Chen et al. 2017) in treating high blood pressure, while its roots positively contain secondary metabolites of terpenoids, flavonoids, and phenolics (Ciptadi 2013).
Almost of all Claoxylon woods were not good for construction or building, and also not suitable for firewood (Hasskarl 1845). The use of Claoxylon wood for building was mentioned by Ardiani (2012) for C. longifolium which used as building material in Tahura R. Soeryo, possibly because of the increasingly scarce hardwood resources.

Kalau malas bisa dicelup air panas untuk dimakan dengan sambal belacan.
Claoxylon longifolium dikenal sebagai pokok Salang khususnya diperak. Biasanya dimasak lemak aau dibuat sayur manis. Sangat enak dimasak lemak putih campur ubi keledek, kalau mau lebih cantik bisa dipakai yang berwarna oranye. Bisa juga ditumis seperti sawi.
LEMAK PUTIH PUCUK UBI
BAHAN-BAHANNYA :-) 2 cekak pucuk ubi 3 batang serai, dititik 1 genggam udang kering rendam 1 liter santan cair 400 ml pati santan Air jika perlu 1 biji bawang besar, hiris halus 3 ulas bawang putih, diketuk 1 biji cili merah, hiris Garam dan gula secukup rasa ARA MEMBUATNYA :-) Pucuk ubi diasingkan dari tangkainya, cuci, tos dan rebus hingga lembut, tos dan cuci bawah air paip. Perah dan potong kecil, masukkan ke dalam periuk. Udang kering ditoskan, kemudian tumbuk hancur tapi jangan lumat sangat. Masukkan ke dalam periuk berisi pucuk ubi tadi. Masukkan juga serai titik, bawang besar hiris dan bawang puith. Gaul rata dan tuang santan cair. Masak hingga mendidih, kemudian sederhanakan api dan masak sekejap lagi. Tuang pati santan, perasakan dengan garam secukupnya dan sedikit gula. Kacau perlahan dan biar mendidih dengan api kecil. Akhir sekali masukkan hirisan cili merah. Masak sekejap, rasa dan jika ok boleh matikan api. Hidangkan bersama nasi putih, sambal belacan, ikan masin atau ikan goreng...
Ada juga menjadikannya sebagai ulam (obat) setelah mencelur terlebih dahulu.
